One among them is the disappearing messages, where users can turn it on to make messages in a conversation disappear after 7 days. Now, leaks for extending this feature with a new option for 90 days are reported.

WhatsApp Disappearing Messages

After a controversial privacy policy in February this year, WhatsApp was forced to revoke its stance as many saw it as unacceptable. And this is when rival messengers like Signal and Telegram have seen an opportunity and cashed on it. Both the rival apps have gained tens of millions of users immediately, threatening the market position of WhatsApp. This led the Facebook-owned messenger to introduce a slew of new privacy features focused on user’s interests. One of them is the Disappearing Messages, which automatically lets users vanish the messages in a chat after 7 days. While this being in place, WhatsApp is also planning to add more options like 24 hours, as seen in a beta update in April this year. Now, new reports from WaBetaInfo say the messenger is adding yet another option of 90 days! This was seen in the latest beta version, 2.21.9.6, and has a lot of time to make it to stable rollout. WhatsApp currently has only the 7-day option in the disappearing messages feature. A user in one-on-one chat turning this feature on will notify the other user, with a badge in-between the chat. This is available in group chats, too, with admins having the power to on/off and control who can change the setting. While this feature is fairly helpful, it doesn’t stop a user from taking a screenshot and saving the chat otherwise or export it already.
