One more missing year in the Note series would be another major step towards the end of the popular ‘phablet’ series.
Samsung’s Foldable ‘Z’ series could be a replacement?
One of the main reasons behind the company dropping the Note series for one more year is the unprecedented success of Samsung’s Z series of Fold/Flip smartphones. The orders for Galaxy Note 10 and 20 series had declined a little bit to 12.7 million & 9.7 million in 2019 & 2020, while the Galaxy Z fold alone accounted for 13 million orders in its launch year. This increasing demand for foldable phones every year could have proved to be the final nail in the coffin for Samsung’s Note series as its importance declined in comparison to the S-series and Z-series. Since its launch, the Galaxy Note series had focused on 3 major elements: powerful performance, big screens, and S-Pen support. Today, these qualities can be found in S as well as Z series by the company, that too in both Snapdragon and Exynos options. The Ultra variant of the S-Series and the Galaxy Z Fold phones are the ones with huge displays while Samsung has added S-pen to the Galaxy Z Series earlier this year with Z Fold 3. This has made the Note series redundant and unnecessary as it no longer has any USP left to offer. If Samsung ditches the Galaxy Note series, the Galaxy Note 20 and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra would then be the last of a dying breed. As some of you may know, the Note series originally began in 2011 and it was a favorite for a lot of Android fans. In India, Samsung is currently selling only the 256GB variant of Galaxy Note 20 for Rs. 44,999. We expect to gain more clarity on this at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event in February 2022, wherein Samsung is likely to announce the Galaxy S22 series.
