The rollout is so silent that, users won’t feel a bit of change until they check the internals. Fuchsia OS is built on the Zircon kernel and runs Android apps natively. It was first made available for select devices in May this year, as a preview update.
Fuchsia OS Update to First-Gen Nest Hub Devices
Google’s first-generation Nest Hub devices – known as Google Home Hub – received a major firmware update from Google recently. While this update doesn’t bring new features, it replaces the core kernel of Nest Hubs! As per 9to5google, Google’s new firmware update pushed to first-generation Nest Hub devices include its in-house developed Fuchsia OS, intended to replace the existing Android OS. Fuchsia OS brings no big changes to the device, but it’s good for cross-platform development. Unlike Android’s Linux kernel, Fuchsia OS uses the Zircon kernel system. It runs few important functions like hardware communication, boot-up process, and application processes management. The first taste of Fuchsia OS was rolled to few selected devices as a preview program in May this year. And there’s no big difference catered in them since then. Google is trying to make this transition as smooth as possible, by not altering the UI and other elements. Even now, updating to the new firmware will change the core kernel completely to Fuchsia, with no big changes that a user can detect. You can only see the name of it changing through Settings > About Device. Even then, the new name isn’t visible.
