With this, users can check the ongoing traffic data right from their home screen and make traveling decisions accordingly. Using AI, this widget shows the complete data of live traffic that’s seen in the Google Maps app in a small square tile hovering on the device’s home screen.
Live Traffic Widget in Google Maps Android App
Google Maps is undoubtedly one of the best navigation apps today, which is loaded with heavy resources to aid in our daily commute and long travels. Making it even better, Google is rolling out a slew of features to Maps regularly. We’ve seen the Maps app platform support for Air Quality Index and Estimated Toll Prices support in the last couple of weeks. And now, Google announced a new widget for checking the live traffic in your area. As per its blog post, this support will soon come to the Maps Android app, followed by other counterparts. When enabled, this widget appears in a square tile format on the home screen and lets you have a glance at the full traffic data within – instead of opening the whole app. The data displayed is the same as what you see in Maps full version, with the ability to zoom in and out the widget. While it’s unclear if we can resize the square tile, it definitely comes in handy in our daily commutes to work, school, home, or anywhere else, says Google. The live traffic updates work based on the AI, which predicts the real-time traffic by analyzing historical traffic patterns databases aside from the live traffic conditions. Besides noting the real-time traffic in your area, the feature can suggest a better alternate route for reaching your destination quicker.
