The Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 has been developed using lab machinery to run tests, and it can easily survive drops of up to one meter on the concrete. If the floor is made of Asphalt, then the phone glass will be able to survive a 2M drop too. The reason behind bringing more rigid screen protectors was the increasing weight and length of the smartphones. For example, as compared to phones four years ago, devices from current times have 10% larger bodies and are 15% heavier. As per the requirement these days, only resistance from dropping is not going to be satisfactory. To make sure the Victus 2 offers more, Corning has also made it scratch resistant. The glass sandwich design of Corning Gorilla Glass not only looks after the display but also the rear panel of the particular device. Scott Forester, Division Vice President and Business Director, Glass and Operations Council at Corning, said in the launch conference that it is difficult to define toughness considering that the smartphones are changing every now and then in terms of size, weight and other physical aspects. He further stated that the smartphones that ship with the Corning Gorilla glass don’t need an external protection and can survive easily without it.

Which devices will get the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 first?

Speculations are that Samsung is going to be the first company to launch devices protected with the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2. There is no official confirmation regarding the same from Samsung’s side. Nonetheless, past patterns of the company suggest that we can get to see the Victus 2 with the Samsung Galaxy S23 series, or maybe only in the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra. That said, we can expect the first phone with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 will be launched by the first three months of 2023. Until Samsung is not confirming anything from their side, users are suggested to take the information with a grain of salt.
